The Lowry String Quartet is:

Noeleen Carslaw, DRSAM: Leader

NoeleenNoeleen studied violin with Denis Benson at CBSM. She then moved to the Royal Scottish Academy of Music to continue her studies with Peter Mountain, Louis Carus and John Tunnell. She joined the Ulster Orchestra fresh from college and played there for seven years. Since leaving the Orchestra she has been heavily involved in the freelance scene in Northern Ireland.

Noeleen has played with diverse musical ensembles including the Northern Ireland Symphony Orchestra, the RTE Concert Orchestra, the BBC Big Band and Camerata Ireland. She has also worked with a string of musical stars, including George Benson, Bread, Daniel O'Donnell and Phil Coulter, with whom she regularly collaborates.

Noeleen is married to the Ulster Orchestra Trumpeter, Hugh Carslaw.

 

Clifford Lowry, Dip RCM LTCL ARCM: 2nd Violin

CliffordAustralian born Clifford studied music at Belfast’s Methodist College before moving to London to study the violin at the Royal College of Music with Rodney Friend and Tessa Khambatta. During this time he specialised in chamber music with Raymond Keenleyside and Leonard Heirsch.

Clifford has recorded and toured extensively throughout Ireland, the USA and Canada with Phil Coulter. He has worked with a varied range of musicians, from the RTE Concert Orchestra and the Castleward Opera, to Sir James Galway, Kiki Dee and Bread.

Clifford is married to the Lowry String Quartet’s Cellist, Kathryn. He is very active in music education in Northern Ireland.

 

Noel Lamont, Dip Ed LRSM LTCL: Viola

 

Belfast born Noel studied music at the Ulster Polytechnic, specialising in the viola with Glyn Parfitt. He regularly performs with the Castleward Opera Orchestra, the BBC and UTV.

Noel is a regular on the Northern Ireland freelance circuit, and he is extremely involved in the local music education scene.

 

Kathryn Lowry, GTCL FTCL: Cello

KathrynBelfast born Kathryn began playing cello at CBSM and MCB. She studied with Michael Hurwitz at the Trinity College of Music London where she won the prestigious Vera Kantrovitch Prize for Bach.

Kathryn joined the Ulster Orchestra in 1985 and she’s currently enjoying a busy schedule of concerts, recordings and tours with the Orchestra.

Kathryn is married to the Lowry String Quartet’s 2nd Violinist, Clifford.
